It is FAST to make. You just need about 30 minutes start to finish.

This recipe is a creamy comfort food. It will fill and warm your belly!

What you need to make this easy and delicious cajun sausage penne pasta recipe:

8 Oz. Penne Pasta

This type of pasta really holds the sauce to it well, but feel free to use whatever shape you have in the pantry.

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil

The olive oil is used to prevent the meat and veggies from sticking to the pan when they begin cooking.

1 Pound EITHER Andouille Sausage, slice OR Ground Pork

As pictured below, I am using ground andouille pork sausage that we got processed at a local butcher when we purchased a whole hog. As this is not easy to find, I would recommend using sliced andouille sausage or ground pork. If using ground pork, add additional cajun seasoning to taste.

1 Yellow Onion, diced

1 Red Pepper, thinly sliced

As pictured below, I am using a red ajvarski pepper that I grew in our garden. A red pepper from the store would work just the same.

Ajvarski Pepper

1 Teaspoon Cajun Seasoning

We prefer the “Cajun Two Step” as our seasoning of choice, but use whatever cajun seasoning you have on hand. Reminder – you will want to use a bit more if you are using plain ground pork vs a seasoned andouille.

1 Tablespoon Creole Mustard

This gives the sauce a little bit of tang!

4 Ounces of Cream Cheese (1/2 Block)

1/2 Cup of Heavy Cream

How to make Creamy and Delicious Cajun Sausage Penne Pasta:

Step One:

Begin by getting water boiling to cook the penne pasta according to the package instructions.

Step Two:

While the pasta is cooking, add olive oil to a large skillet and heat over medium. Add in the diced onion, sliced pepper, and sausage. Cook, stirring frequently and breaking up meat as needed, until meat is browned and onions are translucent.

Step Three:

Stir in the cajun seasoning (use additional to taste), creole mustard, and the cream cheese. Once the cream cheese is melted, turn the burner off until the pasta is done.

Step Four:

Once the pasta is cooked, strain and add to the skillet. Turn the burner back on to medium low, add the heavy cream, and stir until the dish is well combined and heated through. Serve immediately, and enjoy!
