Ingredients
Scale
For the patties:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 TBSP ketchup
- 2 tsp dijon mustard
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 TBSP oil for frying
For the gravy:
- 1 cup diced onion
- 2 TBSP butter
- 2 TBSP flour
- 1 1/2 cups broth (beef or chicken)
- 1 TBSP ketchup
- 1 TBSP worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- salt and pepper to taste
- optional – 6oz sliced mushrooms
Instructions
- Make the patties – Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, dijon mustard, and seasonings in a medium bowl. Mix together well with your hands but be careful not to overmix. Form into 4 round patties abound 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat a large skillet over medium with about 1 TBSP oil. Once the pan is good and hot, add your patties and cook until browned. This should only take a few minutes. Flip them over and brown the other side. Remove from pan and set aside.
- Start the gravy. Turn the heat down to low and add the butter and onions (and mushrooms if you are using them). Sautee until they are slightly softened. Mix in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Increase heat to medium and slowly stir in the broth a little at a time. Once all of the broth is in, add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Continue cooking until its slightly bubbling and thickening.
- Return the patties to pan with the gravy. Cook for a few more minute to make sure the patties are cooked through and the flavors are well combined. Serve with a side of your choice and enjoy!
