TOP 10 VALENTINE’S DAY GIFTS FOR THE HOMESTEADER

Are you stumped on what to get the homesteader in your life? This is the list for you! You can’t go wrong with a single one of these budget friend gift ideas for that special person.

  • Cast Iron
  • Garden Auger Drill Bit
  • Canning Jars & Lids
  • Seeds
  • Sourdough Supplies
  • Fermentation Supplies
  • Harvest Basket
  • Soil Blocker
  • Soaker hoses
  • Soil

1. CAST IRON ANYTHING

Cast iron- everyone one loves a good cast iron pan, but especially the homesteader. If they already have a skillet, consider a smaller frying pan for eggs, a dutch oven, a bread pan, or even a casserole dish. These pans look great and are true workhorses in the homestead kitchen.

2. GARDEN AUGER DRILL BIT

Okay, if you don’t know what this is then do a quick google search. Basically, instead of had digging holes to put your plant into in the garden, you use this handy tool instead. It attaches to your drill and punches quick holes in the ground. It makes planting day go SO FAST. It really is a gardening game changer, and it’s something I wish I would have had years ago.

3. CANNING JARS & LIDS

This one is probably a no brainer. If you are homesteading either on a small scale or a large scale chances are you will appreciate getting jars or lids as gift. It’s one of those things that you really can’t have too many of. And jars don’t even need to be bought new, this is something I look for regularly at garage sales or on Facebook Buy, Sell, Trade pages. It’s not uncommon to find someone who is cleaning out there garage or basement and has box full to get rid of.

4. SEEDS

Seeds. All of the seeds. Any of the seeds. We want them all. We want to grow all of the things. And they last a lot longer than the date on the packaging. Like years longer. I feel I like there is no more to be said about this one. Yes to seeds, always.

5. SOURDOUGH SUPPLIES

This can be anything from a starter (although, a lot of homesteaders already have that) to a dutch oven to bake it in. Proofing baskets, bread lame dough scoring tools, and a danish dough whisk are all great options for the homestead baker.

6. FERMENTATION SUPPLIES

There are a range of supplies that anyone dabbling in fermentation would like to have. Fermentation lids, weights, and tampers are all great options. So are jars and crocks for storing your ferments.

7. HARVEST BASKET

Of course every homesteader wants a cute basket for harvesting their garden produce in! We want something good sized, and sturdy also, for hauling that surplus of summer tomatoes and squash back to the house in.

8. SOIL BLOCKER

This is another handy tool that I wish I would have know about years ago. This tool is used in place of seed trays to start seeds indoor before planting out in the garden. They come in a variety of block sizes, and will last years. No mores storing stacks of plastic seed starting trays!

9. SOAKER HOSES

Hoses in general are just a must for homesteaders. Between watering the gardens and watering the animals you’ll likely need a lot of hose length. Soaker hoses are especially nice, however, because you can put them through the rows of your garden, hook it up, turn it on, and let it water the plants for you. This way you can use your time pulling weeds instead of holding a sprayer.

10. SOIL

This one might seem kind of weird to give as a gift, but trust me your homesteader will appreciate it. We invest a lot of money into getting the garden ready each spring, and a big bag of good quality seed starting soil comes with a price tag. Your homesteader will definitely like this more than you would guess!
