Do you ever think to yourself….. why should I buy this when I could probably make it myself?
We had that thought a lot and that’s probably the main reason we got into this homesteading lifestyle!
This type of a list could really go on and on, but I’m going to share my short list of ways to start becoming more self sufficient.
I fee like most of these are probably obvious, but here we go anyways!
- COOK FOOD FROM SCRATCH
-Cut back on eating out
-Replace store bought bread with homemade
-Meal plan and use what you already have
2. GROW YOUR OWN FOOD
-Plant some herbs in pots on the patio
-Start a garden. In ground or in raised beds
-Get some laying hens to have your own eggs
3. REDUCE. REUSE, RECYCLE
-Find ways to use what you already have before buying new. If you do need to purchase things, consider searching second hand. This can save you a ton of money on those homestead projects.
-Facebook Marketplace and local buy, sell, trade groups are great for finding material for your projects.
4. LEARN TO DO THINGS YOURSELF
-This can be as simple as mowing your lawn or as complex as rebuilding your mower motor!
-The point is to at least try to figure it out yourself before asking for help or paying someone to do it for you.
